Pens 5 – Capitals 3 – March 12

The Penguins looked flat during their game with the Washington Capitals last night, falling into a 2-0 hole in the second period. However, Jared McCann turned the tide in the second when he stole the puck from Evgeny Kuznetsov and charged toward the net, passing to Jake Guentzel for the score and the Pens first goal of the game. From there, Sidney Crosby took over, scoring twice in just over a minute to give the Pens a lead they would not relinquish. The Pens snapped their Metropolitan Division rival’s 7-game winning streak with a 5-3 win, and have moved within four points of the Capitals for the top spot in the Met. Evgeni Malkin also hit a career milestone, scoring his 1,000th point in the victory…..a secondary assist on Phil Kessel’s game-winning power play goal. The Penguins now travel to Buffalo Thursday night to take on the Sabres.
