The summer’s heating up for the Penguins ahead of the beginning of free agency on July 1. After yesterday’s trade of Conor Sheary and Matt Hunwick to Buffalo for a conditional fourth round pick, the Pens inked Restricted Free Agent Riley Sheahan to a one year deal valued at $2.1 million. That locks up the Pens fourth line center for next season at a reasonable price. Sheahan was invaluable to the Penguins after being traded from Detroit, and found a way to spark his career in the new setting. The Pens also re-signed Jean-Sebastien Dea to a one year, two way contract. Apparently, there have also been unverified reports from multiple news sources that D-man Jack Johnson will be coming to Pittsburgh next season. After yesterday’s trades, the Pens certainly have the cap space to pull that move off.
