The Penguins are starting to gain momentum with a strong December. They defeated the Red Wings last night 5-2 for their fourth win in a row. Detroit started out hot with an early 1-0 lead, but then the Pens shut them down. Phil Kessel had two Power Play goals, Derek Brassard scored twice, and the Pens showed the Red Wings the door. Winger Jake Guentzel was also a big winner yesterday after he signed a 5-year/$30 million extension. Guentzel has 53 goals in his young, 159-game NHL career. Tack on another 23 goals in two postseason campaigns, and its easy to see why the team was quick to sign him to a longer deal. The Penguins now go on a three game road trip that starts tomorrow night in St. Louis against the Blues. Listen to all the action on Rocky 96.5!
