45th Anniversary of Rush’s First Show in Pittsburgh

On August 14, 1974, Rush, along with their newly acquired drummer Neil Peart, played their first show as a group at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, making it 45 years as an official lineup. Opening for Uriah Heep and Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, the young Canadian group had 24 minutes to play a set with Peart who joined the band just two weeks prior. And the rest is history. But this isn’t the only significant Rush moment from the area. It was a Cleveland radio DJ who first played Rush’s Working Man, garnering the band their first bit of attention in the US. Rush may be from Canada, but if it wasn’t for the tri-state area, they may never have developed into the group we know today.
