After Golden Earring’s guitarist and co-founder George Kooymans was diagnosed with ALS, the band has decided it was time to bring an end to their 60 year career. Kooymans and bassist Rinus Gerritsen formed the band in 1961 when they were just 13 and 15 years old respectively. Originally known as The Hauge, the Dutch band went on to score such hits as “Radar Love” and “Twilight Zone” while carving out a place in the global rock scene. The band has 25 studio albums in their discography with their most recent release being the 2018 compilation Alive….Through the Years. Even though the band is calling it quits, we’ll still keep playing their hits on Rocky 96.5.
